Another surgery

Since my last post, Jordan has had multiple doctor appointments and another surgery to care for this pressure wound.
Between plastic surgery and ortho, it was decided to conduct another surgery to understand the full scope of the wound and to determine if the bone and/or muscle have been damaged. Jordan was rolled back for surgery on Friday, June 16th. It wasn’t exactly the outcome we wanted but not the worst case either.
A part of Jordan’s muscle that sits next to his tibia (shin bone) has been damaged. Some of it was exposed to the air while his wound was opened, and the other part of it has gone through atrophy. The surgeons removed the part that was exposed and therefore were able to close up the wound! This is good news as it’s been open since December.
The muscle mentioned above is located in the back of his leg and attached to his hamstring. It’s too early to tell if the lack of strength in this damaged muscle will impact Jordan’s physical ability long term. The hope is that the hamstring will compensate for the loss in the other muscle. Time will tell.
As the wound heals, the process to get Jordan a new leg has begun! If all goes well, he will take his first steps on Thursday! We are hopeful the wound remains closed and Jordan will be surgery free for many years to come.

We have some good things to look forward to in the near future while being cautiously optimistic that his wound behaves and heals well.
Thank you for staying close to this crazy journey of ours. We will share more in the weeks to come.
With love and light,
