Life as the new usual

It's been a while since I've updated the blog. Life has been somewhat normal for us, while we navigate another world of post-cancer opportunities and the amputee community.

From receiving accolades from his high school soccer coach to playing amputee soccer at the highest level, and from supporting other teenagers through their own cancer journey to sharing his story to promote blood donations, Jordan continues to inspire many.

We are anxiously awaiting for May when Jordan will officially be in remission. His scans and test results have his care team optimistic. It's unbelievable that he will be 2 years cancer free in just a few months. We know how rare this is and we recognize Jordan got the best of the worst case scenario. We are grateful.

With that, I will be closing the chapter of updating this blog once he gets cleared for remission in May and encourage you all to follow Jordan on instagram @jordan.obie

I've added a few pictures below to help share some of the things Jordan has been up to recently.

Receiving his "Highest Achievement Award" by the Golden High School head coach, recognizing Jordan for his determination, perseverance and leadership throughout the season.

Family trip to the western coast of Costa Rica for Thanksgiving, testing out his trust with his prosthetic leg on a zip line tour.

Photoshoot! Our family will be the featured story in the February issue of the Golden Living Magazine, our local neighborhood magazine. One way Jordan is sharing his story. He was already featured in the sports section in November!

Jordan's Aunt Robyn (my sister) works for a company that innovates and manufacturers products to help in the collection, processing, development & delivery of blood & cell-based treatments. They often create patient stories to help promote the incredible power of blood donations and Jordan's story is up! It took over a day for the production company to interview and film our family for the video (which will be out soon!). Please spend an hour to donate blood if you are able. You will save a life!

If getting 20+ days in on the mountain this season isn't enough, Jordan was eager to try to skin (hike) up the mountain. He ordered parts and worked on building his own backcountry set up so he can be physically able to climb the mountain and ski down. All 4 of us skinned up the resort one morning for his first attempt, which was tiring but wildly successful. We got him a beacon and some avalanche awareness classes for Christmas.

As Amputee Soccer teams form across the country, there is a big fund raising effort. Dan, Jordan's Dad, has become very involved with the Colorado Rapid's Amputee program and was successful in being a Kroenke Sports Charities Anniversary Grant recipient in 2025. The picture shows Jordan (second from the left) at the CO Avalanche game receiving the grant on the team's behalf. This grant will help shape the future of this program.

And finally, it's truly unbelievable that Jordan is playing for the USA Amputee Soccer Team. We are just getting home from his first international tournament that was in San Jose Costa Rica where Costa Rica, Guatemala and the USA competed. Jordan was successful in getting his first team cap, international cap, GOAL, and assist for the USA throughout the weekend. This is a picture of Jordan with a few of his teammates lining up pre-match.

Thank you for continuing to follow along this journey of ours.
