Happy Cancerversary!

One year ago today, Jordan was diagnosed with bone cancer. It’s been quite the journey…

Jordan had his 3 month cancer screening check up last week and is still cancer free! All scans came back clear, although his hemoglobin levels were very low. Unfortunately, and unrelated to cancer, Jordan was diagnosed with Celiac disease. His body showed low levels of iron, which caused his hemoglobin to drop and is an indicator of celiac disease. Plus, his Aunt Robyn and I were just diagnosed with celiac over the past few months. So, we are working through that slowly has he is still recovering from surgery 3 weeks ago.

Jordan’s leg is healing well. The doctor removed 35 stitches today and kept 5 remaining in the area that needs a bit more attention. Another appointment is scheduled for two weeks from now to hopefully get the last of the stitches removed. Meanwhile, he is on a crazy dose of antibiotics to avoid another infection and now a daily iron supplement to help get his iron and hemoglobin levels up. We are working with infectious disease specialists, gastrointestinal specialists, registered dietitians, the oncology team, the orthopedic team and plastic surgery at Children’s Hospital. Jordan is a well known patient at Children’s!

This past year has taught us the value of love, strength and happiness. Jordan has been our rock. This kid inspires us daily. While he is still dealing with the debris from his battle with cancer, nothing is slowing him down. Life really doesn’t need to be hard. It’s how you approach it is what matters.

We are cautiously optimistic that Jordan will be healed up and back in a prosthesis within the next couple of months, while eating a healthy gluten free diet. More to come from us as this journey continues.
