Starting on Wednesday, September 7th, Jordan will begin a 29 week journey to recovery.
We are getting a better feel for what the next 6 - 9 months are going to look like, and we wanted to share some details, so we can all be on the same page about what to expect.
Jordan will receive chemo for 29 weeks.
At week 12, he will need a full leg reconstruction.
They will need to remove the top of his right tibia(right shin bone) to get rid of the tumor, as the tumor is inside of his tibia.
Chemo will kill the cancer, but the tumor still needs to go.
This will require a full knee replacement and metal replacement for the top of the bone.
1 - 2 weeks after surgery, he will go back in for 17 weeks of chemo
So if all goes as well as we can hope for, his path to recovery will take a little over 30 weeks, followed by lots of PT and strengthening for his leg.
Last round of chemo currently targeted for March 25th
Chemo will not be every week, but rather in bunches along the way
For example, the first 11 weeks is 1 week of chemo, 2 weeks off, 3 weeks of chemo, 2 weeks off, 2 weeks of chemo, 1 week off, then surgery.
Each week there is chemo, Jordan will be in-patient at Children's Hospital of Colorado for 2 - 3 days, starting on Friday of that week.
Trying to limit his time away from school as much as possible, this schedule will allow him to miss Friday and possibly Monday for each week he has chemo, but attend school all other days.
Jordan has a solid care team here at Children's
Kari has created a really helpful treatment calendar which will help identify what types of treatments he will get, and when. It also includes information about the side effects of chemo, so that everyone can understand just what Jordan will be going through. I have also included the chemo details below.
If anyone has questions, please feel free to use the comments below this post to ask us anything about his treatment and recovery plan.
