Two Years Ago Today...

On August 29, 2022, I was on a plane traveling back home to Denver after attending my cousin's memorial service. It was a very emotional weekend as my cousin lost his life at a young age of 40. Throughout the weekend while I was away, Dan was taking Jordan to multiple doctor appointments as he had a pain in his right knee.

You know something is wrong when the doctors move quickly and continue to ask for additional scans, images, etc. I remember trying to remain as present as possible during the memorial, but was so distracted and curious on Jordan's outcome. Dan and Jordan had a meeting with the doctor while I was on the plane heading home. Once I landed, they called me to tell me Jordan had bone cancer. I'll never forget that moment. My heart sank and I recall saying to Dan, "...he had everything going for him."

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of Jordan's diagnosis. It's unbelievable to reflect on what we have been through over the past 2 years. He successfully fought cancer and is currently in remission. He became an amputee and fought through a vicious infection that prolonged his recovery by 6+ months. He has learned how to walk with a prosthesis and had the opportunity this summer to intern as a prosthetist. He started to ski and play soccer again, just in a different capacity from his pre-cancer days. He skied 30+ days last winter as a 3-track skier and blew our minds with his ability. He now plays on 4 soccer teams as an amputee (one of which is the USA Men's Amputee Soccer Team!!), continuing to inspire everyone on the sidelines.

Jordan still has "everything going for him" and more. Dan and I are honored to be his parents and will always support him throughout his life journey. If you ever need a taste of inspiration, motivation, courage or determination, think of Jordan, read this blog or follow him @jordan.obie

I still think of my cousin regularly, especially this week. Rest in peace Doug.

With Love and Light,

The CO Obies
