Life at Children's Hospital

Jordan and I have been roommates for the past couple of days/nights at Children's Hospital. He has encouraged me to get outside each morning for some exercise which I'm grateful for. After his chemo treatment yesterday, we took a stroll around the campus to explore what the hospital has to offer.

The hospital is so accommodating to all kids, any age. Jordan was so impressed by the T(w)een room and is looking forward to revisiting there again after his treatment concludes this afternoon. They have an art room with 3-D printers and musical instruments, a pool table, game room, movie theater and more. It's such fun environment and a great distraction.

We were also able to get some fresh air yesterday and sat outside on a bench for a bit. It was nice, even if it was 106 degrees outside!

Today he had a special visit from a couple of Rockies players, Brian Server and Connor Joe. Jordan isn't much of a baseball fan, and had no idea who these guys were, but it was still fun and a good photo op! He even got an autographed hat.

The staff at Children's is incredible. We met his Physical Therapist today, Heather, who will be supporting Jordan now through the next 5 years. Jordan seemed to have a good connection to her already.

He is feeling good. A bit nauseous at times, but he has a lot of medication to help with it. He is looking forward to having some visitors later today from friends and family. He misses is sister a ton. Tomorrow he will get to go home for a about 2 weeks. Side effects are expected to worsen over the next few days so he will value being in the comforts of his own home.

Kari, I know that this is incredibly difficult for you and Dan. Wendy and I are praying for a complete and perfect recovery for Jordan.

A quick story: Wendy went in for an elective hysterectomy to deal with recurring fibroids, etc. The morning she was being wheeled into surgery, she was asking "Why am I doing this?"

The procedure went perfectly and literally she had only a few steristrip bandaids on her abdomen. Two days later the doctor walks in and tells us that she has uterine cancer. He goes on to say that the surgery they would do for the cancer had just been done with the hysterectomy but we will need to go every six months for complete…
