This pressure wound is definitely testing us. The skin graft didn’t take. Yes, that is very rare. His doctor said he has only witnessed that one other time.

As you could imagine, our hearts felt broken, knowing this would set us back from getting fit for a prosthesis. To put this into prospective, without this pressure wound, Jordan would have had a prosthesis by February or March. We are now in June.

Jordan’s care team was quick to find solutions. We met with the plastic surgery team at Children’s Hospital and they determined the skin graft didn’t take because the tissue in and around the wound wasn’t healthy enough to make the connection. Jordan now has a daily regimen to care for the wound. The plastic surgery team is expecting to see the wound respond positively over the next 7 days. Fingers crossed. We will then have more of a definitive plan and timeline for next steps. Here is a picture from one of Jordan’s most recent appointments as they have a look at his wound.

Meanwhile, the ortho team and prosthetics team are comfortable starting the process of building Jordan a leg, while keeping pressure off of the wound. Receiving this update lifted our spirits. Jordan is hyper focused on improving his range of motion through physical therapy exercises to prep for walking again. “I’ll do whatever I need to do to get a leg” said Jordan.

Throughout the last 9 months, we have been collecting Beads of Courage from the hospital. Each bead has a story, from getting blood drawn to chemotherapy, from an emergency room visit to being discharged from the hospital. He collected the most meaningful one recently, the Purple Heart.

We will continue to share updates as Jordan takes one day at a time.

With love and light,

The CO Obies

Jordan you cease to amaze me! Saying I am proud of you doesn't seem like enough! Just know you're always in my heart and you fill it up with every step you take. Staying positive and humble because you have taught me too. 💜 Love ya buddy. - Hugs, Ms. Grauer - (Kinder teacher)

Your family and I am optimistic about you healing sooner, rather than later. Keep fighting. You got this.
