Physical Therapy

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

We are about to complete our 5th to LAST Methotrexate inpatient hospital visit, heading home today!! Only 4 more inpatient stays left, along with 4 Doxorubicin outpatient sessions. We are getting there...

While in the hospital this weekend, Jordan had an Echo exam, X-Rays, a CT Scan and some physical therapy. The Echo is to monitor his heart functionality overtime and how, or if, the chemotherapy is making an impact. As a result of the exam, his heart is functioning at a lower level than his base line that was captured in November. His care team is not too concerned, but they are taking the necessary precautions while consulting with cardiology. Therefore, his lead oncologist made the call to not proceed with the Doxorubicin treatment this coming Thursday and Friday. Instead, he has another Echo exam scheduled for the end of this week. We will update the blog with the results and next steps once we learn more.

Postponing the Doxorubicin will push the remaining chemo schedule back at least a week. For all of those planners out there reading this, yes, it's a tough one to swallow. But his health is more important than any schedule. We have learned how to adapt and be flexible.

All other results look good. CT Scan came back clear, meaning there are no nodules or signs of cancer in his lungs. The X-Ray gave us a good look how his leg is healing. It's pretty wild and impressive! You can see where his femur and tibia bone meet about a quarter of the way down his leg, just below the nail.

So the inside looks good. And the incision on the outside is healing well, considering the impact chemo has on the healing process. Jordan did incur a pretty sizeable pressure wound early on following his surgery. We are suggesting it's a World Cup injury as he was resting his leg without elevation causing this unwelcomed wound. It doesn't hurt, but it's nasty and will most likely cause a delay in getting fit for a prosthetic until it heals. We are planning on meeting with the wound team at Children's before we dip today.

Physical therapy is helping Jordan gain strength and mobility. Have a look at his new game he can play!

We are starting to brainstorm some ideas for Make a Wish which is fun and motivating! If you have any ideas, we would love to hear them (feel free to drop them in the comments below).

We love you and thank you for following along.
