Still residents at Children's Hospital

We have been hopeful and patient, but unfortunately we are still in the hospital. I'll provide a brief synopsis as of the last post from Saturday and conclude with some fun stories.

Saturday night Jordan received a platelet transfusion. His levels were close to the threshold and a stubborn bloody nose told us that he was ready. Risks do exist but they are minimal. Jordan had no reaction, except for his platelet levels that increased from 12 to 40 within an hour.

If you reference the last post, his ANC (Absolute Neutrophil Count) needs to show improvement and to be greater than 100 in order to leave the hospital. Upon admission on Friday, his ANC was at 10. Jordan's levels dropped down to 0.00 Sunday and Monday. He was feeling well, just tired and mad/sad/frustrated (all the things) that he was still required to be in the hospital. Now it's just a waiting game.

As of today, Tuesday, he is showing a slight improvement, now at 30. His platelets are low again (19), white blood (0.64), red blood (2.48) and Hemoglobin (7.4). There is a chance he will get another transfusion if his hemoglobin drops to <7 or he shows signs of shortness of breath or fatigue.

The nurses draw labs at midnight each night. As you can imagine, the first thing we do when we wake up is log onto the hospital's app that shows us Jordan's test results. Our fingers are crossed that the Neulasta shot (see last post) starts to trigger and he begins to regenerate good blood cells so he can go home tomorrow.

So, we decided to make the most of it. Jordan's Uncle Justin paid a visit and donated platelets to Children's Hospital. I donated blood as well.

And.... Jordan put pressure on his surgical leg for the first time!!!! With physical therapy's guidance, of course, he was able to hold at 10 lbs! He was nervous, as anyone would be. We are so proud of this kid and feel extremely fortunate with his prognosis and progress.

We have just over a week for his next admission for chemo, scheduled for Feb 10th. We will continue to be patient and hope he gets home soon for a much needed break.

His fight is our fight, and he keeps fighting!

Keep up the good fight Jordan, though distant, Gramma and I think of you every minute of every day. We look forward to hiking and biking with you, perhaps after the snow melts. Our thoughts and prayers are always with you.

Love,

Gramma and Papa Obie
